Construction Strategies
From minor repairs and renovation to new building construction, the UCF acronym has sometimes been defined as "Under Construction Forever." However, opportunities for contractors have been minimized over the years due to state budget cuts. Contractors are finding that strategic planning is increasingly important and necessary in staying ahead in today's competitive market. UCF also recognizes the need to include small-businesses, minority-owned, woman-owned, service-disabled veteran-owned business enterprises (SMWVBE).
UCF'S PARTNERS WITH THOSE SHARE ITS PHILOSOPHY OF DIVERSITY INCLUSION
The University of Central Florida expresses its full support of socioeconomic diversity in business development. The university also encourages larger firms in their partnerships, teaming, alliances, and mentor-protégée relationships with smaller firms. The university also encourages all of its contracting partners to share its goal in becoming more inclusive and diverse specifically in their dealings on behalf of the university.

MBE Inclusion Summary
R.L Burns Construction Inc.
R.L. Burns Construction Inc. followed the tips given in earlier Diversity in Contracts workshops, made an appointment with our Facilities and Planning team, listened to the feedback given, and went on to submit the #1 project book. After being selected for a selection interview, R.L. Burn Construction presented a solid case of their expertise and past project successes. Questions were responded to with ease as RL. Burns Construction representatives gave practical examples of their experience. R.L. Burns Construction now has a continuous minor services contract with UCF.
The message is that UCF does stand for opportunity for all. The rest is history and a great success story for other firms wanting to do business with UCF. R.L. Burns has even helped by identifying process improvements to the minor services bid process. Beyond that, R.L. Burns Construction has given back to other minority contractors as spotlighted in one of their first contracting jobs with UCF.
Since that time, R.L. Burns Construction worked on a few other UCF jobs and continued to give back to other minority contractors. R.L. Burns Construction even helped bond Paint Smart, a minority-owned company, after the company was awarded a job at UCF.
A diversity of contracts comes when there is a diverse representation of bidders. UCF encourages other small, minority-owned, woman-owned, service-disabled veteran-owned businesses to bid on UCF opportunities. Thank you to R.L. Burns Construction for paving the way for future inclusion at UCF.
